L102 Fundamentals of Threats and Hazards (24 hours)

This course provides the participants with an overview of scientific prinicples and concepts that shape our increasingly dangerous world. The contents of the course include the following: Intorduction to Science of Disaster provides a definition and benefits of science. * earth science describes how the Earth's design sets the stage for the world's natural hazards including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions. Tsunamis, and landslides/sinkholes. * Climatology describes the scientific basis of common atmospheric hazards including convective storms, tropical cyclones, and other hazardous weather. * Chemical and biolobical basics identifies the scientific basis of chemical and biological threats. * Explosive, radiological, and nuclear fundamentals identifies the scientific b asis of those threats. It. Is mandatory that the participant complete all 3 days of this course to receive full credit. Anything less will result in the participant's need to re-register for another course and start from the beginning.

Prerequisite: Participants must complete the 11- independent study (IS) IS-100.c, IS 120.c, IS 200.c, IS 230.e, IS 235.c, IS 240.c, IS 241.c, IS 242.c, IS 244.b, IS 700.b, IS 800.d. course before the 40-hour residence course including the course *FEMA L0101: Foundations of Emergency Management
