Quick Start
Step 1: Submit your Industrial Radiography Exam Application.- After processing, you’ll receive a Pearson VUE email to schedule your computer-based exam (check junk/spam folders if not in your inbox).
- Pay online (preferred). A 2.25% convenience fee applies to credit card payments (processor fee, not IEMA-OHS).
Step 1: Exam Application
Complete the ✅ Application for Examination in Industrial Radiography. Complete the application fully. Your name must match your state ID/driver license.Submitting & Payment
- Review your application before submitting.
- After processing, we’ll prompt you for online payment (preferred). Checks are accepted but slower.
- Applicants are not fully processed until payment is received. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- Accepted methods: major credit cards, checks, and debit cards.
- 💳 Credit card convenience fee: 2.25% (goes to processor).
Using the Online System
- Use any device; a computer with stable internet is recommended to avoid payment disconnections.
- Expect an email from Pearson VUE early in the month once you’re on the roster; use it to schedule your exam location, date, and time. Check junk/spam folders if you don't see it in your inbox.
- If you or your RSO don’t receive the email by the 15th, contact ema.radtech@illinois.gov.
- Exams are computer-based. You’ll choose a test center, date, and time via Pearson VUE.
Exam Payment Deadlines (2026)
Applications should be submitted one week prior to the payment deadline to allow staff to process applications. But early application submission is preferred.

Step 2: Certification Application
After you pass the exam, you may complete the ✅ Application for Certification in Industrial Radiography and attach your CRCPD test results and a compliant photo (chest-up, light background, no hat, well-lit).
- For initial Illinois certification, your RSO must sign to confirm work experience.
- Complete all fields; your name must match your state ID/driver license. Answer questions completely and honestly.
If you answer “Yes” on certain questions
Provide a personal statement if you answer “Yes” to any of the following:
- Felony conviction
- Denial or revocation of a license or certification
- Issues related to drug, alcohol, or physical/mental health
- Delinquency of child support
After Processing & Legal Review
- You’ll receive an email with instructions to log in and pay online.
- After payment, your application goes to Legal for a general background check; results may take more than 1 week. Review state regulations.
Paying Online
- Log in and verify your name, address, and email on your profile screen.
- Click “Make Payment.” You will be redirected to ePay to enter your card information.
- After payment, you’ll return to your profile screen and see your payment confirmation.
After Payment
- Exam applicants: You’ll receive detailed test information by email.
- Certified radiographers: Certification card mailed within ~3 weeks, if your background check has cleared (sometimes longer; we’ll contact you if needed).
Name Change Requests
Submit by email, fax, or mail. Ensure the new name matches your state ID/license. Include: current full name, certification number, and the new name.
